According to Iranian media reports, in the early morning of the 8th local time,the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards and US forces fired dozens of missilesat two Iraqi military bases. Iran said the attack was in retaliation forthe US assassination of Suleimani.
Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif later said Iran would not seek escalation orwar, but Iran would protect itself from any aggression.
In response, Trump said in a televised speech that no U.S. personnel werekilled or injured in the attack. "Iran will never have nuclearweapons," he said, and announced new sanctions on Iran.
